SUMMARY

During more than two years, from 2023 to 2025, I worked part-time as a Student Staff at the Academic Unit of Telkom University Surabaya. This article tells the story of my journey in learning responsibility, building systems, and growing professionally within an academic environment through real operational work, creative initiatives, and leadership experiences that shaped how I collaborate, take responsibility, and contribute sustainably in a team.

As a Student Staff member, I was involved in the academic development sub-unit and the Center for e-Learning and Open Education (CeLOE). My responsibilities included managing academic communication through social media, handling end-to-end production of learning videos with lecturers, supporting technical operations for offline, online, and hybrid academic events, documenting campus events as a photographer, contributing to workflow improvements, coordinating creative teams for academic events, and assisting in staff recruitment and knowledge transfer to ensure continuity within the unit.

Building The System Behind Academic Communication

WORKING ACROSS MEDIA, PROCESS, AND QUALITY

WORKING ACROSS MEDIA, PROCESS, AND QUALITY

My role focused on managing academic communication through Instagram, and producing learning videos in collaboration with lecturers. I handled the end-to-end production process from scheduling and script review to shooting, editing, and final delivery.

Through this work, I learned that quality is not only defined by visuals, but by structured workflows, clear communication, and well-managed expectations across stakeholders.

One of the earliest challenges I faced was the limitation of production equipment for learning videos. The main risk was compromised quality and inconsistency. Together with my teammate, I contributed to preparing OPEX and CAPEX proposals for production equipment procurement.

I prioritized essential tools based on budget constraints, prepared alternative scenarios, and maximized existing resources while the procurement process progressed. Over time, essential equipment was gradually fulfilled, enabling a more stable and sustainable production workflow.

To maintain service consistency, our team continuously evaluated the production process. This led to the development of standard operating procedures for learning video production, including risk mitigation strategies for potential issues.

In 2024, I also participated in a workshop and certification program held by CeLOE Telkom University Bandung, focusing on project management and learning video production. This experience strengthened my belief that quality should be system-driven, not person-dependent.

Operating And Documenting Campus Events

STAYING RELIABLE IN ALL SITUATIONS

STAYING RELIABLE IN ALL SITUATIONS

Beyond content production, I served as a technical operator for academic events, handling Zoom and OBS setups for offline, online, and hybrid formats. These situations trained me to remain focused and composed when unexpected technical issues arose, especially in time-sensitive environments.

I learned that reliability in operations is built through preparation, attention to detail, and the ability to make calm decisions in various situations.

I also contributed as a photographer for various academic and campus events, including the 2024 Telkom University Graduation Ceremony, Family Gathering 2024, and the 2025 Academic Directorate Workshop. Through this role, I learned to capture not only moments, but the context and story behind each event.

Leading And Sustaining A Team

LEADING WITH CLARITY AND RESPONSIBILITY

LEADING WITH CLARITY AND RESPONSIBILITY

In 2025, I was appointed as Creative Coordinator for The Market Day 2025 Vol.1. With only one month of preparation, my main challenge was ensuring that every team member clearly understood their roles and responsibilities within a tight timeline.

I designed a comic-style branding concept with contrasting colors to attract students and the general public, aligning with the event’s mission to support student tenants. While managing the creative direction, I coordinated closely with my supervisor to ensure smooth execution and alignment with overall event objectives.

The event involved more than 60 student tenants and welcomed over 1,100 visitors. Beyond the numbers, the success of the event was reflected in positive feedback from tenants, visitors, committee members, and campus executives.

Toward the end of my tenure, I collaborated with the unit manager to design a recruitment process for new student staff. This included defining requirements, technical assessments, interviews, and final selection. I then assisted in onboarding and mentoring the new team, focusing on responsibility, work culture, and continuity of knowledge.

Reflection On Professional Growth

This experience reshaped how I approach work from completing tasks individually to collaborating through clear systems and shared ownership. I learned that sustainable impact is built through structure, communication, and collective responsibility.

Let's Build Something Meaningful

I’m always open to meaningful conversations, from new ideas, collaborations, to exchanging thoughts about building better digital experiences.
